Michelle's Dog Training
Any dog can be a good dog!
I graduated from the Animal Behavior College (ABC) emphasizing in shelter dog training. I did my externship with the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth where I was hired as an adoption counselor. This position was filled with opportunities to find people the dog of their dreams. I was also able to hone my training techniques on dozens of breeds while understanding the unique challenges for a shelter dog’s life.
I got involved in Service Dog Training through Train a Dog Save a Warrior (TADSAW) in May of 2013. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that helps put shelter dogs into their forever homes with veterans that suffer from PTSD, TBI, and MST.
I have worked with therapy dog training, to bring qualified therapy dogs into elderly homes, and physical therapy areas to add enjoyment to their life.
My training techniques teach dogs that obedience and other desirable behaviors are things they like to do because of rewards such as treats, toys, petting and praise. This type of training creates a dog whose primary motivation is based on earning a reward as opposed to avoiding a punishment. My goal is to teach the client to look at their dog as an individual and use rewards the dog likes whenever the dog does something the client likes. This will motivate both the client and their dog without causing unnecessary confusion or stress.
My name is Michelle and I love what I do!
